Poly is very pleased to announce that Jerell琼斯, who has 15 years coaching success with high school and professional indoor football programs in the U.S. and abroad, has been named Head 足球 教练.

“I believe in developing the whole child,琼斯说 about his coaching philosophy.  “Creating a program with an environment that fosters their cognitive, 物理, 社会, and emotional well-being will be my priority. This philosophy encompasses the full scope of my student-运动员’ development and to ensure that each member of the team reaches their fullest potential.”

“教练 琼斯 is a leader,” Head of School 奥德里乌斯·巴兹杜卡斯P ' 20 说. “He inspires and empowers his players with his knowledge of the game, and genuinely cares about them as students, 运动员, 和公民. I enthusiastically join our community in welcoming him to Brooklyn and look forward to his leadership and mentorship.”

“Getting to know 教练 琼斯 has been a great experience,” added 体育主任 理查德·科索. “He is a man of great integrity and possesses a myriad of sports experiences along with a keen understanding of sports sciences and best practices.”

Before graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a BS in Kinesiology in 2007, 琼斯 captained the URI football team while earning MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards. He also received a MS in Kinesiology from URI, and a MA in Athletic Administration & 教练ing and a MS in Exercise Physiology & 教练ing from Concordia University in Irvine, CA. A certified strength and conditioning specialist, 琼斯 will also serve as Poly’s Director of Track and Field.

“As a young football player, I always aspired to get to the next level,琼斯说. “In high school, I was very ambitious and dedicated to playing collegiately. In college, I was devoted and determined to play professionally.2008年大学毕业后, 琼斯 signed contracts with the New York Giants and San Diego Chargers of the National 足球 League (NFL). “It was only an eight-month venture, but something I worked hard for and am very proud of,” he 说.

“The greatest advice that I can give to my players that have similar aspirations, is to put forth max effort and exhaust all the possibilities to make it happen. This will ensure full potential when reaching their goals.”

大学毕业后, 琼斯, 土生土长的纽约人, played defensive back for the New Jersey Revolution, a professional football team of the American Indoor 足球 Association (AIFA), while pursuing a career as a football and track coach at Roosevelt H.S. 在扬克斯. His playing career also included wide receiver for the Chambersburg Cardinals, a professional football team of the Big North East 足球 Federation (BNEFF) and the Gridiron Developmental 足球 League (GDFL), where he won Rookie of the Year honors and 2011 Special 团队 Player of the Year. 琼斯 also played for the Harrisburg Stampede and the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, both professional indoor football teams.

On the international football scene, 琼斯 served as offensive coordinator and quarterback and later general manager for the Jyvaskyla Jaguars, a professional football team of the Finnish Maple 足球 League. He also served as player and coach for the Hameenlinna Huskies professional football team of the Finnish Maple 足球 League. “教练ing and playing abroad was a tremendous experience,” 琼斯 explained. “There is a wide variety of talent, from Division 1 All-Americans and NFL players to first-year newcomers. The experience enabled me to differentiate my coaching strategies to better serve various populations of talent and skill to achieve a common goal.”

Back in the New York metropolitan area, 琼斯 continued his football and track coaching careers at New Rochelle H.S.， Don Bosco Prep H.S.Nyack H.S., where he served as Head 足球 教练 before coming to Poly.

What are his hopes for the Poly Blue Devils football team this fall? “To be a program that everyone can be proud of,”  琼斯 说.

“I am tremendously excited and grateful to be a part of the 保利预科 and Brooklyn community,琼斯说. “Thank you to 保利预科 for welcoming me and extending the opportunity to be a part of the storied history and continued excellence of academia and athletics.”
